Three types of camping are available at Isle Royale: 3-sided shelters (max. 6 people), tent sites (max. 6 people) for 1-3 tents, and groups sites (for parties of 7-10 people). There are 36 campgrounds with 1-11 sites each.

Campsites and shelters cannot be reserved, except for group sites by groups of 7-10.

Long-term campground stays are not permitted; to ease overcrowding, campgrounds have varying limits on consecutive night stays of from 1-3 nights. Come prepared to be mobile, self-sufficient, and flexible. Expect to share campsites in July and August, the period of highest visitation.
