Copper Canyon

Frontcountry camping is virtually nonexistent within the remote, rugged 64,000 square kilometre Copper Canyon region. There is one small public campground near the town of Creel; otherwise, visitors lodge in one of the small hotels and lodges scattered throughout the canyons.

Backcountry camping is allowed. Extreme care is required to respect the holdings and homelands of the native Tarahumaran and other Indians inhabiting the entirety of this region. Hiring a known local guide is highly recommended.
