Visitation
Visitation is heaviest in the summer months.

Permits
All campsites in the Marin Headlands require a permit which must be picked up in person at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center.

Visitors Center and Programs
Visitor Center: There are GGNRA visitor centers in the Presidio, Muir Woods, Alcatraz Island, Marin Headlands, and Fort Mason.

Food Supplies and Concessions
Food/Supplies: Plenty of food and supplies are available near the San Francisco portions of the recreation area. The Marin Headlands and the San Mateo coastal areas are more rural; packing a lunch is advisable.

Concessions: The Blue & Gold Fleet ferry provides transportation to Alcatraz Island.
