Canyon Village
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is the primary geologic feature in the Canyon District. It is roughly 20 miles long, measured from the Upper Falls to the Tower Fall area. The Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone are erosional features formed by the Yellowstone River as it flows over progressively softer, less resistant rock. Visitors can view these impressive falls at various paved lookout points or from hiking trails in the area. Hayden Valley is one of the best places in the park to view a wide variety of wildlife. It is an excellent place to look for grizzly bears, large herds of bison, coyotes and birds.
