Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area
The Flaming Gorge NRA is in the northeast part of the Forest. The Reservoir extends 90 miles into Wyoming and offers outstanding fishing and boating. The Little Hole National Recreation Trail parallels the river 7.3 miles from the Dam to the Little Hole Day Use Area. Rafting this section of the Green is a favorite pastime of visitors. At Ute Lookout Tower visitors enjoy a spectacular view and learn about the life of early Forest Service lookouts. The Flaming Gorge NRA also has 3 marinas and many campgrounds.

While motor boating, sailing, swimming, windsurfing, water skiing, and scuba diving are among the lake's popular activities, "The Gorge" is most famous for its fishing. The Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam is a world famous trout stream. These famous angling waters have produced fish of state and world record size, including lake trout over 50 pounds, German brown trout over 30 pounds, and rainbow trout over 25 pounds. Flaming Gorge also supports numerous cutthroat trout, kokanee salmon, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish. While the lake claims the big ones, the Green River below the dam is one of our nations finest blue ribbon trout streams. Fish populations have been counted as high as 22,000 per river miles.
