Nez Perce National Forest ![]() Located in north central Idaho between Oregon and Montana, lies the Nez Perce National Forest. Of the Forest's 2.2 million-acres, nearly 1/2 of the land is classified wilderness. 4 wild and scenic rivers and several recreational rivers have carved deep canyons into the surrounding mountainous terrain. Large elk herds and fantastic steelhead runs provide exciting opportunities for sport fishing and hunting. It is a land rich in Nez Perce Tribe and early gold mining history. As it is the traditional home of the Ni Mii Pu (The People) who were later named the Nez Perce Indians by the Lewis and Clark expeditions. This beautiful and diverse land, from the dry, rugged canyons of the Salmon River to the moist cedar forests of the Selway drainage, offers something for everyone. Scenic vistas abound.
