Ottawa National Forest ![]() The almost one million acres of the Ottawa National Forest are located in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It extends from the south shore of Lake Superior down to Wisconsin and the Nicolet National Forest. The area is rich in wildlife viewing opportunies; topography in the northern portion is the most dramatic with breathtaking views of rolling hills dotted with lakes, rivers and spectacular waterfalls. The Ottawa National Forest is known as "Waterfall Country". Waterfalls are beautiful in all seasons. The ice formations created in wintere are spectacular while the flora and fauna during the summer add special touches. The greater flow of water in spring after snow-melt and in the fall after a rainy period makes the falls themselves most impressive. The following list is a sample to help get you started on enjoying "Waterfall Country". Portions of the Ottawa National Forest receive over 200" of snow annually. Referred to as "Big Snow Country", winter sports enthusiasts will find Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, and ice fishing for several months of the year.
