Moran State Park

Robert Moran, one-time mayor of Seattle and shipbuilder, presented the original 2,600 acres to Washington State in 1920. By 1928, he had added another thousand acres to his original gift, and the park has been enlarged by various means of acquisition until in 1991 it has grown to its present 5,175.51 acres. Moran State Park has over 30 miles of foot trails which were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. These range in difficulty from a fairly level 2.5 mile walk around Cascade Lake to the more demanding climb from Cascade Lake to the summit of Mount Constitution.

Recommended Activities

  • Take the short trail explaining the "Forces of Nature."
  • Visit the tower atop Mount Constitution which contains two enclosed cabinets displaying park history and five photo-engraved plaques at the tower top that identify visible landmarks.
