Colorado Mountain School

Since its inception in 1981, the Colorado Mountain School (CMS) has been providing personalized climbing experiences with care and concern for both the individual client and the environment. We work in partnership with Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) as the sole concession authorized to guide climbs within the Park. Elsewhere, CMS operates under special use permits granted by the National Forest Service, and other federal, state and local land agencies. The majority of our domestic programs utilize the wonderful climbing resources of RMNP, but we also guide rock in Eldorado Canyon and ice in Vail and Ouray and travel outside Colorado to lead rock climbing in venues such as Cochise's Stronghold and Joshua Tree, CA. In addition, CMS leads guided expeditions to all the greater ranges of the world.

We offer numerous programs year round in all climbing and mountaineering pursuits. We happily work both with beginners and also guide some of the most advanced technical terrain in the U.S. In addition to climbing with individuals, we provide courses and training's to a number of groups, including universities, the U.S. Military, the Colorado Center for the Blind and many others. We pride ourselves on customized courses and climbs, on taking the time necessary to learn what your goals are in the mountains and helping you to achieve them.

The CMS Staff includes some of the world's best climbers and teachers. Their collective resumes are remarkable, including first ascents in the Himalayas, the Andes, and throughout North America, published guidebooks, and climbing instructional texts. Some are geologists and biologists; many have teaching experience in fields apart from mountaineering.
